March 2011 Newsletter
Trails
are Closed!
Yup, that about sums it up.
Gates are going up, which takes time closing
and signs are coming down in some areas.
It’s officially over folks.
A Great Season!
As far as snowmobiling goes we had an
exceptional season this year.
We finally had some decent snow, and having
snow pretty much statewide gave more
flexibility to where one could ride, whether
it was traveling to the north country by
sled or snowmobiling in your own back yard.
It was awesome.
Having a lot of snow gave our groomer
operators a good chance to roll all of our
groomers, they covered a lot of ground this
year. Our operators put in 356 hours
of grooming time and that did not include
any repairs that they had to do on
equipment. Strictly all volunteer work. With
that being said we would especially like to
thank the club’s Trail master, and all of
our other groomer operators for volunteering
their time for us so that we could have a
decent ride. The grooming team did a
spectacular job and we thank each and every
one of you.
For statistics we officially ended the
season with 435 memberships, totally super!
And did you know that we maintain 52 miles
of snowmobile trails in the
Barnstead/Pittsfield area? Yup!
The SVSR is extremely thankful for its
memberships, its landowners, its officers,
its groomer drivers, its volunteers.
Snowmobiling has been going strong in our
area for quite some time and we hope it
continues to do so. It will with
everyone's help. We thank you all for your
support.
Ski-Doo Million $ Club Support
This was the certificates you may have
filled out in the fall. Each
certificate was worth $10 to a club.
We received a check for $280 so that meant
that 28 people filled out these forms on our
behalf. We thank you for your support.
The Ski-Doo Million $ Program reported that
they injected $735,000 into clubs nation
wide. There was 64 clubs who received
the highest amount of $1,500, and
approximately 66% of registered clubs did
receive a check from BRP and its dealers.
Manchester Monarch’s Hockey Game
This is happening Saturday, April 2nd at the
Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester. The game starts at 7 p.m.,
but there is some who will be gathering at
the Red Apple Buffet in Concord around 5 p.m. for
supper before heading to the Verizon Arena.
Anyone is welcome to come and eat before the
game. Or you can skip the
meal and go straight to the game for 7 p.m.
The choice is yours.
SVSR Sweatshirts
We voted at the March meeting to go back to
Teddy Tees in
Concord, whereas
they have our old prints of sweatshirts if
anyone wants one. If you would like to
check out what we have already in stock then
you need to contact Matt Goodwin on his cell
at (603)-396-8841, or e-mail him at
travel@nhtourguide.com. If you want to
order a new sweatshirt then you need to
contact Brian Towle at 435-6353.
Barnstead Old Home Day Dinner
Don’t forget we’re suppose to prepare
Barnstead’s Old Home Day Dinner on Saturday,
August 27th. Volunteers will be needed
to help set-up and cook the meal. We
know August is a ways out from now, but
it’ll get here quicker than you think.
So don’t forget to jot down the date as help
will be needed. Thanks!
A Bit of History
A meeting was held on Thursday, November
8, 1973, at the Pittsfield Fire House
with approximately 75 members present.
As the meetings are so well attended it was
decided that all future meetings be held at
the Barnstead Fire House in view of the
space problem.
Reports of the secretary and treasurer were
read and approved, and copies of the
approved By-Laws were made available.
Mr. Vernon Leduc reported on the progress of
the trials, bridges, etc. Another work
party will be held on Sunday, November 11,
1973 at 9 a.m.
The Activity Committee reported
approximately $250 in income. One of
the junior members presented the Club
President with $100 representing his raffle
ticket sales. It was voted to give the
Activity Committee $50 for a petty cash fund
and all other bills incurred to go to the
treasurer. The Activity Committee will
meet with the Board of Directors. It was
decided that all committees would keep their
own accounts and records.
The President stated that if the club is not
the 100th Club to join NHSA any number will
be acceptable. He also reported the
purchase of steel for the drags and a bush
cutter.
The patch contest was won by Mr. Roy
Sargent. The emblem committee will
pick colors for the Club’s approval.
Refreshments were served and the meeting
adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
Elections At Our Next Meeting
If anyone is interested in running for an
Office or looking to step down, please let
the club’s Secretary know by calling her at
269-4730, or by e-mailing Shirley at
arniesrepair@msn.com. before our next
meeting.
Last Meeting Of The Season
Our final meeting of the season is
WEDNESDAY, April 6, at 7 p.m. at the
Barnstead Parade Fire Station.
All good things must come to an end.
Be sure to park on the far right side of the
building as you face the building and enter
through the side door.
February 2011 Newsletter
The
Town & Country Motor Inn
Another great weekend at the T&C.
We’ve got nothing but fun stories and
memories to share, and we have some new
thoughts and ideas for next year.
What about a pot luck buffet breakfast next
time? And there is talk already about
the theme being Nerf Mania. Hum, what
could that all mean? Maybe you should
be looking for a Nerf bazooka right now?
Seriously, the riding and the company was
superb. Lots of fun and once again the Town
& Country was very hospitable. Until
next year……..
SVSR Poker Run
It was our first poker run and we were very
pleased with the turnout thanks to all of
you. We had a total of 79 hands
played.
The weather and the trail conditions were
excellent. A thank you to our groomer
drivers who made sure we had a nice smooth
route.
The cash prize winners were:
1st Place (Best Hand) Arthur Doucette $175
2nd Place
- Mickey Jones $100
3rd Place
- Joe Hough, Jr. $50
4th place (Worst Hand) Don Boisvert $25
A thank you to the following businesses who
donated door prizes:
Arnie’s Auto Repair, Circle Restaurant, HK
Powersports, Jack’s Pizza, Johnson’s Dairy
Bar, Marla’s Sharpe Shears, Meadowview
Farm Wagon & Sleigh Rides, Route 28 Bakery &
Dairy Bar and Village Pizza.
Also a “big” thank you to Barnstead
Motorsports for the warm fire and the use of
their property for this event. We heard lots
of good comments about the Poker Run. Thank
you everyone!
Metcalf’s Bonfire & Sledding Party
On Saturday, February 19th a few came by
snowmobile, others came by car. There was
plenty of warm hamburgers, hot dogs and
cocoa to go around.
The highlight of the hill was the Wolfe
jump. We think Miss Stephanie holds
the title for the highest airborne
jump followed by her father, and 5 year old
little Mason won the longest upright
position held on his inflatable ski-mobile.
Mason was like the energizer bunny he just
kept going and going. Then Denise wins
the award for the most snow shoveled in her
face along with Jill who kissed the snow
face down. And then there was the toboggan
girls always smiling and waving even when
they tipped over. Many thanks to the
snowmobile snow bunnies for picking up
people and transporting them and their sleds
to the top of the hill.
We would like to thank the Metcalf family
for hosting the event. Lots enjoyed
the good ole fashion fun.
Trail Warning
A 400 ft. section on Pineo Road is posted
10 MPH. This is an active road.
The 400 ft. section has had too many close
calls, car vs. snowmobile and has been
brought to the town’s attention. Not
good.
All snowmobilers need to slow down and keep
right. We could lose this section if
snowmobilers do not comply. Please
follow the 10 MPH speed limit, that means
EVERYONE Slow Down!
Trail Dedication
Snowmobilers, family and friends gathered on
Sunday, February 13th at the Loudon Ridge
Trail Junction for Kenny Piasecnzy’s trail
dedication.
The ceremony was led by the club’s
President, Laura Foss. Dana Elliott
also spoke and shared some of his fond
memories of Kenny. Then the public was
encouraged to speak, they did, as well as
family members. As a final tribute young
Tucker Wolfe played “Time of my Life” and “Sweet
Home Alabama”
on his guitar. It was a very nice
touch to a special ceremony, there was not
many dry eyes in attendance. Thank you
Tucker you did a beautiful job. Next
the trail was officially declared the
K-Whooper Trail in honor of Kenny.
Some stood observing his sign while others
got on their sleds and rode the K-Whooper
trail from the beginning to the end on
behalf of Kenny.
Charlie Roberts made both of Kenny’s signs.
One is located near the Loudon Ridge Trail
Junction on a tree and the other is nearer
to Kenny’s former home off of the power
lines near
Ingalls Road.
Thank you Charlie for the signs.
After the ceremony everyone was invited
nearby at the Osborne house for hamburgers
and hot dogs. Thank you Andy & Ely.
It was very heartwarming to see so many at
the dedication. It was a special day
for a special guy.
Kenny always traveled in the back of the
pack watching over everyone else, well from
this day forward his name will now lead the
pack and we will watch over him.
Kenny’s name will not only be on our trail,
but he will live forever in our hearts.

January 2011 Newsletter
At Last Snow!
And so far it’s staying with us, enough so
that our groomers have been out grooming.
Halleluiah!
We’ve had a few minor breakdowns, but thanks
to the quickness of our groomer drivers
handling the repairs themselves the groomers
weren’t down very long. Great job!
We are off to a cold and snowy winter so
far. When out riding please be
courteous to others and stay within the
marked trail. And before you head out make
sure you know your machine and its
limitations, and wear proper gear while
riding. A safe ride will end up being
a fun ride.
Town & Country Motor Inn Weekend
We were a little worried the beginning of
last month as we did not have to many rooms
being spoken for, but now we are right on
target. Out of 30 rooms set aside for
us 23 are now full. Watch out T&C here
we come!
This year’s theme is “Pirates.” Shiver
me timbers!
At our February meeting we will discuss
Saturday & Sunday morning breakfast and our
evening pot luck buffet and anything else
anyone would like to bring up.
SVSR Poker Run
Come on time to get off the couch and go get
your snow suit and helmet on and get outside
and fire up your sled. We would like
for you to head on over to Barnstead
Motorsports where we are having a Poker Run
on Saturday, February 12th.
Registration will be from 9 a.m. to 11 and
you must be 18 or older to play.
Although any age can ride along the route.
The cost is $8.00 per hand or 2 hands for
$15. A slight twist has been added, you’ll
be able to receive a sixth card along the
route to increase the possibility of
bettering your hand for $2.00 if you like.
Cash prizes will be awarded according to
the number of participants in the run.
Door prizes will also be given. We are
looking forward to a fun and exciting time.
The club will also provide a concession tent
serving hot and cold drinks, hot dogs and
hamburgers all for a donation.
If by chance the trail conditions or weather
is in question please check our website for
any changes in the event, or feel free to
call Shirley at 269-4730 days or Laura at
435-8729 if in doubt.
We do have a back up date of February 26th
just in case the riding conditions are not
that great. Here’s hoping we have
plenty of snow on the 12th.
Should be loads of fun!
Easter Seals
The Easter Seals Ride-In is about a week and
half away, and NHSA’s Super Raffle will be
coming to a close on Sunday of the ride-in.
At their closing ceremonies they will draw 4
winning tickets. Now these were the
tickets that we sold in the fall at
Maxfield’s and at Bosco Bell Store. It
would be nice to have someone in our area
win. Here’s hoping and good luck if you
purchased a ticket!
An Invitation
The Strafford Swampstompers have invited us
(SVSR members) to attend their
Bonfire/Social event & cookout on Saturday
evening February 12th, weather permitting.
For more information and directions be sure
to check out their website at
www.straffordswampstompers.org. We
thank them for the open invite.
Manchester Monarch’s Hockey Game
We already have a date even though it’s
still a few months away. We are
looking at Saturday, April 2 as SVSR
Monarch’s Game night at the Verizon Wireless
arena. The game starts at 7 p.m.
If you are interested in going you need to
contact Brian Towle at 435-6353 to let him
know how many tickets you will need.
SVSR Sweatshirts
We are working on making the availability of
sweatshirts much more convenient for people
through Shirtmasters in
Chichester. Normally we
wait until we have an order of 12
sweatshirts before we can order. We
are hoping that if you would like a
sweatshirt that you can walk in to
Shirtmasters and order right there instead
of going through us first. This has
not been etched in stone yet.
Hopefully by our next
meeting we will have an answer.
Trail Conditions Throughout The State
Every Tuesday and Friday throughout the
snowmobile riding season, trail reporters
from around the state notify the Bureau of
Trails of current trail conditions in their
area. These reports are compiled and
posted to the bureau’s website at
www.nhtrails.org.
If you are interested in becoming a trail
reporter call Brenda Drouin at the Bureau of
Trails at 603-271-3254, or e-mail her at
Drouin@dred.state.nh.us. If you
would like to just receive the report on
Tuesday and Fridays via e-mail then just
e-mail her and let her know.
